NEXT architects is an international architecture firm that has worked on research and design projects in the field of urban planning, architecture, interior, and infrastructure since its foundation in 1999. NEXT architects is located in Amsterdam. In 2004, NEXT opened a second office in Beijing, China.


NEXT architects connects. By reflecting on the role designs play in their environment, NEXT incorporates 'connection' as a core theme in its portfolio and work method. The strength of this architecture firm lies in its ability to develop strong ideas that become a persuasive part of the project's specific context. Every project is unique and calls for a keen assessment of the specific needs and qualities of the location. 


NEXT architects collaborates in multidisciplinary teams and takes an innovative approach to projects. These teams include consultants in the fields of construction, building physics, construction cost maintenance, and landscape, but also artists, historians, ecologists, sociologists, and designers.


NEXT architects actively searches for partners and clients who want unique solutions and who aren't afraid to experiment. NEXT is a strong party that approaches complex problems in a cooperative and proactive way.


In recent years, NEXT has demonstrated its ability to carry out large and complex projects commissioned by provinces, municipalities, and private clients such as COD, Amvest, Lingotto, and Amsterdam Airport Schiphol. 

NEXT has received various awards for its work, including the Nationale Staalprijs (2018), Nationale Bouwprijs (2017), the NRP Gulden Feniks (nomination, 2017), European Prize for Architecture Philippe Rotthier (honourable mention, 2016), and the Dutch Design Award (winner 2018, nomination, 2016). NEXT has also been featured in various national and international publications and media including WIRED, Designboom, Dezeen, Monocle, Financial Times, Het Financieele Dagblad, Elsevier, and CNN.

NEXT architects zijn Bart Reuser, Marijn Schenk, Michel Schreinemachers and John van de Water. They trained at Delft University of Technology and teach at a number of educational institutes. Before starting NEXT architects, they worked for various leading Dutch architecture firms.
